According to Association of American Publishers (AAP) sales figures, eBook net sales increased by 115.8 percent, up from $32.4 million to $69.9 million.

When infringement occurs, publishers and authors can seek relief, generally payment for unauthorized use. Changing the law, however (which is what the Authors Guild hopes will happen), should depend on an assessment of adverse impact.
Books uploaded to file-sharing sites are an infringing use. They represent (in my world) an “instance of piracy”. Someone did something with book content they should not have done.

What is really impressive is that the growth of our digital products is moving faster than the decline of our print products. This suggests to me that we are not seeing one product type cannibalizing another — rather they are supplementing each other.

E-book sales from participating reporting publishers continue to grow, with a 112.4 percent increase over October 2009 ($40.7 million) compared to $19.2 million in October 2009. January-October 2010 year-to-date E-book sales are up 171.3 percent reaching $345.3 million compared to 127.3 million from January-October 2009.
