Taschen is to publish its first app this week, a re-release of architectural title Yes is More.
Exclusive to the iPad, the £5.99 app will be launched on the iTunes App Store this week. The illustrated publisher appointed its first digital director Julius Wiedemann last month.
Yes is More comprises the original 400-page “archicomic”, which sets out the radical agenda of Danish architectural practice Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) in comic-book form.
Three institutions–Oxford University, Rice University, and Open University--have added e-books for free download through iTunes U, Apple’s educational area in its iTunes Store. Each is taking a unique approach to the selection of its e-books, but all are using the EPUB format.

Как я понял, на бумаге будет book-on-demand, а так - Kindle Edition. Переводная книга, теретически, и впрямь очень подходит для цифрового издания — она дороже по расходам, чем обычная (из-за выплат переводчику), но за счёт экономии на бумаге может быть всё равно выйдет дешевле.
Lonely Planet has launched augmented reality guides for UK’s Google Android users.
Its ‘Compass Guides’ are available for 25 locations including Amsterdam, Bangkok, Barcelona, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, Paris, Prague and New York City. They are available for $4.99 (£3.12) from the Google Android store.
Matthew Cashmore, innovation and ecosystems manager, said: “This is one of the most innovative things we’ve launched and we’re really excited to see how people use this application.
Random House chief executive Markus Dohle is expecting e-books to contribute more than 10% of the total US revenue next year, according to an interview in German magazine Der Spiegel.
A Reuters article translates the piece, in which Dohle said e-books were already generating 8% in the US, where it had risen “by leaps and bounds.”

Scribner and Simon & Schuster Digital have released what they are calling their first-ever “enhanced e-book,” Rick Perlstein’s Nixonland, via Apple’s iBookstore application.
The enhanced e-book [iTunes link] includes an original interview with the author and 27 historic video segments produced by CBS News embedded alongside the original text, which was first published in hardcover in May 2008. A digital version without the video is also available through Amazon’s Kindle Store.
