“Terrified” by Amazon’s Kindle e-reader and discounted e-book pricing, five major publishers allegedly acted together to increase e-book prices and compel Amazon to abandon its discount sales strategy. That’s the gist of a new class action antitrust lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California by the Hagens Berman litigation group.
The five book sellers named in the suit are HarperCollins, Hachette Book Group, Macmillan, Penguin Group Inc.
В пресс-релизе издательства поп поводу выхода «Имени розы» (извините, в «новом оформлении»; фамилия автора, как, наверное, следовало бы ожидать, прочитать невозможно) гордо сообщается, что «автор теперь в АСТ!».

The story of Ordfront began some 35 years ago in an old smokehouse on the south side of Stockholm and continued on an old farm in Småland, in the south of Sweden. There, the first members of Ordfront devoted themselves to rediscovering the art of printing books, whilst raising sheep and growing potatoes. For many years Ordfront was a marginal enterprise in the Swedish media world, even though the company’s move back to Stockholm meant a geographical relocation back to the centre.
Double Arthur C Clarke award-wnner Pat Cadigan said: “This is exactly what I’ve been hoping for now that the digital book is becoming more widespread. I have always said that the e-book will not be the death of the physical book – the e-book will save so many wonderful books from being lost. We have to remember that what we read is the book – what we read it on, whether ink and paper or pixels on a screen, is just the interface.
JK Rowling has revealed that she will release the long-awaited e-books of her mind-bogglingly popular fantasy series through her own ecommerce store and interactive online experience, Pottermore.
Crucially, Rowling will sell the e-books through a proprietary platform, she revealed at a press conference this morning in the Victoria & Albert museum in London. Because of a shrewd arrangement with her publishers Bloomsbury and Scholastic (or possibly just a short-sighted one on the publishers’ side), Rowling retains the digital rights to the seven Harry Potter novels.
Speaking at the inaugural Futurebook Innovation Workshop, held in London Bridge, digital editor Dan Franklin announced that five 10,000 word e-books would be released on 28th July, priced £2.99, with Franklin saying the books, and the imprint, will be aiming to fill the space for long-form journalism left as traditional media contracts.
The specially-commissioned titles, all written by journalists, will be: Kettled Youth by Dan Hancox; The Debt Delusion by Mehdi Hassan; The Revolution Road by Peter Beaumont; Digital Activism or Slack-tivism?
