The second important event is that after months of job offers, interview prep, flying around the planet so the interviews could be conducted etc., I have finally accepted an offer. From Google, no less. I’ll be moving to Mountain View in the San Francisco Bay Area some time in September or October of this year.
I’d like to thank all the companies I’ve interviewed with/received offers from for their time and consideration.
Google’s executive chairman, Eric Schmidt, warned on Wednesday that government plans to block access to illicit filesharing websites could set a “disastrous precedent” for freedom of speech.
Speaking to journalists after his keynote speech at Google’s Big Tent conference in London, Schmidt said the online search giant would challenge attempts to restrict access to the Pirate Bay and other so-called “cyberlocker” sites that encourage illegal downloading – part of government plans to fight online piracy through controversial measures included in the Digital Economy Act.
Like most companies, Google regularly communicates with our business customers via email newsletters, updates on our official blogs, and printed materials. On this occasion, we’ve sent a short book about data, called Think Quarterly, to a small number of our UK partners and advertisers. You’re now on the companion website, thinkquarterly.co.uk (also available at m.thinkquarterly.co.uk, if you’re on the move).
We’re flattered by the positive reaction but have no plans to start selling copies!
Judge Denny Chin said the agreement “would simply go too far” and would give Google a significant advantage over its competitors.

И пусть теперь они сидят со своими книгами, а сиротские книжки так и вообще пусть тухнут. Отличное решение. Нафиг вообще книги? Фтопку их.

Google Editions will launch in the US this year, with international launches to follow soon after, delegates at Tools of Change Frankfurt have heard. But the Google Editions will not be available on the Kindle at launch.
Google’s Abraham Murray said at launch there would be over 400,000 paid-for titles available from publisher partners, along with 2m public domain titles, but that more titles would be made available once the service opened internationally.
we can finally count all the books in the world. There are 129,864,880 of them. At least until Sunday.

Методика вполне корректная.
Судя по всему, это первый залп маркетинговой кампании Google Editions.
Google Editions is an upcoming paid access product that will allow consumers to easily purchase and read digital editions of books. Consumers will be able to preview a book, as they do today in Google Books, and will also have the option to purchase its Google Edition. After purchase, the book will live in the consumer’s online bookshelf, available to be accessed and read on most devices with internet access and a web browser; as well as on supported partner devices (to be announced during our public launch).
