Аллюзия совершенно безобидная, поскольку понятие книги литературоведа Беньямина в этом эссе не волновало, интересуя только инструментально, как носитель книжной гравюры. И вся история про ауру, так тревожившая Беньямина, прилагалась им только к изобразительному (точнее, визуальному) искусству. Тем примечательнее, что дискуссия вокруг электронной книги сейчас всё ещё происходит практически по-беньяминовски: бумажная книга обладает аурой (запахом, звуком, тактильностью), а электронная — нет.

Amazon has sold loads of cheap Kindles ever since it decided to introduce a WiFi-only model and drop the price to just $139. Now, the company is taking its low-priced-Kindle initiative a step further by introducing on-screen ads to its lowest-price model, allowing the company to drop the price by another $25. The ad-supported Kindles will begin shipping on May 3.

In an unusual social media venture that brings together Google and Facebook, BookGlutton.com founder Travis Alber is releasing Readum, a new social media application that allows readers to add comments and notes to books in their Google eBooks library and easily post them on Facebook for the general public or to specific groups.
Alber called Readum “a proof of concept” project to create a social media connection for readers across different e-reading platforms and devices.
EBOOKS ARE NOT BOOKS. They’re just bits, and typically not so many, compared to a radio show. The cost of making a copy is negligible. It needn’t cost anything to distribute the ebook. eBook distribution is even cheaper than radio, because you don’t have to pay for transmitter power, and you don’t have to own a frequency license. It’s the monetization machinery that costs money: the ecommerce systems and the DRM.
The AAA constitution says anyone employed by a publisher should not be eligible for membership. Piers Blofeld of Sheil Land said the AAA should reflect the “fast-changing landscape” of publishing. He said: “There are obvious issues and potential conflicts of interest, but at heart the role of an agent is to offer advice and support to a writer on their writing career. We’re here to maximise their earnings. We’re not simply there to act as an interface between authors and publishers—that landscape has gone.
Среди улучшений — макет уже практически можно не подгонять под экспорт в EPUB, а создавать последовательность материалов в панели Articles. Кроме того, появилась более аккуратная настройка графики, поддержка видео (для устройств типа iPad), возможность автоматически растеризовать первую страницу для обложки и разное прочее. В общем — это уже серьезный инструмент.
