Georgiy Kolpachev, managing director of investments at Rusnano, says that it is disappointing that the market and margins weren’t right for Plastic Logic’s e-reader, but that “it’s a reality of life”. Plastic Logic still has a competitive advantage, says Kolpachev, because the company has shown that organic electronic devices can be made on an industrial scale — in this case in a facility in Dresden, Germany. Rusnano’s investment in Plastic Logic was never just about making an e-reader for Russia, he adds, saying that his company remains committed to the firm.

Digital revenues for Simon & Schuster US climbed 64% in the first quarter of the year, while print sales also rose.
In S&S’ parent company CBS Corporation’s financial results for the first quarter to 31st March 2012, the company said publishing revenues increased 14% to $176m from $155m for the same period last year.
S&S attributed the hike in sales to its digital publishing arm, which represented 26% of the company’s total revenues, its “highest to date” according to the publisher.
Microsoft has invested $300m (£184.5m) in Barnes and Noble, forming “a new subsidiary” of the bookselling chain to include the store’s Nook, digital and college business.

A new dropdown menu in the EPUB Export Options dialog box gives you a choice of export formats: EPUB 2.01, EPUB 3, and an enticingly-named ”EPUB 3 with Layout.”
First let’s get that EPUB 3.0 with Layout one out of the way: As with a few other new commands in InDesign CS6, this option is more of a promise than a working feature. Choosing it results in a warning that it’s an “experimental” format they’re working on, aimed toward “adaptation of layouts across different mobile devices,” (so the “layout” in the name does not mean a fixed-layout EPUB), and currently only “specific Adobe viewer technologies” will work with this format, but these viewers are not named and aren’t available (yet).

Теперь есть отдельная секция книг на русском языке. 17 тысяч книг — не так уж плохо. Как я понял из данных нескольких книг, русские книги продаются при посредничестве MintRight. Разыскать их в поиске, вводя кириллицу, правда, пока не получится — только транслит. Но всё равно Amazon’у должно быть стыыыыдно!
