Четыре японских производителя Sony, Panasonic, Rakuten и Kinokuniya, занимающихся продажей электронных книг, объединили свои усилия в этой области. На днях четвёрка сообщила о том, что ею ведутся работы над универсальной системой, которая позволит приобретать и читать контент на ридерах любой из четырёх компаний.
В рамках новой службы потребители получат централизованную возможность управления своими закачками и просмотра магазина электронных книг, независимо от того, устройство какой из четырёх японских компаний они предпочитают.
Random House Children’s Books has released four colour picture e-books, marking the start of its e-book publishing programme for picture books. Digital editions will from now on be released alongside the physical books.
Four titles have been published as fixed page format books for the iBookstore, and in standard EPUB format where the text reflows for the Kindle, Sony Reader and mobile devices.

Developed by a European consortium coordinated by the Italian Publishers Association (AIE), ARROW — Accessible Registries of Rights Information and Orphan Works — is a system to help libraries with the identification of rights status and rightsholders in digital library programs. ARROW is based on a pro-active search of rightsholders for works eligible for inclusion in any digitization program, and indirectly is a tool for the identification of so-called “orphan works.
Looking at the way the US market developed, it is clear that publishers were able to adapt to the changing face of digital publishing extremely fast, making a lot of content available in a very short time frame. It is also clear that European publishers are unable to do this. Looking at the Dutch market, it is the lack of content that is one of the main road blocks to a healthy e-book market.
E-books, print on demand, online sales sites, the boom in mobile phones… new technologies are profoundly transforming the way texts circulate. Developing countries, however, which face serious limitations in infrastructure, have a considerable challenge ahead of them.
What new actors are emerging in the countries of the South, outside of the powerful platforms already existing in the US, Europe and Japan? Is it conceivable that there may be an autonomous evolution of digital publications in developing countries, entirely independent of the richest nations?
