Запускаем любое “книжное” приложение с DRM (Kindle for iPad, Kobo, eReader от B&N и т. д.), открываем книгу, на каждой странице делаем скриншот (Home Button + Power), переправляет из Photo себе в комп, грузим всё в Google Docs в режиме распознавания — и вуаля. Разрешения PNG-файла, который получается, вполне хваатает для относительно качественного распознавания. Google, правда, пока русского не понимает. Но это пока. В общем — быстрее, чем сканировать.

Apple said Tuesday that it was set to make a major push into illustrated books on Wednesday, introducing more than 100 titles to its iBookstore, an assortment of children’s books, photography books and cookbooks.
Some of the most popular children’s picture books of all time will be available, including some of the “Olivia” picture books, published by Simon & Schuster. Other titles are “Ad Hoc at Home,” a lavish cookbook by the chef Thomas Keller; “Beginnings,” by the photographer Anne Geddes; and “In the National Parks,” a photograph collection by Ansel Adams.
On Thursday, the Toronto-based e-publishing startup will launch Reading Life, a new e-reading iPad application that integrates with the company’s digital bookstore designed to bring social-networking capabilities to the world of electronic books, in a sort of Book Club 2.0.
Through the opt-in service, Kobo users will be able to directly share with their friends what books they’re reading and share favourite passages through Facebook, keep tabs on their reading history through a comprehensive statistics tracker and earn badges and rewards for reading in a manner reminiscent of social check in services like Foursquare and Gowalla.
E Book Sales Hold Steady At Nearly 9% of Trade Book Sales
E-book sales from participating reporting publishers continue to grow, with a 112.4 percent increase over October 2009 ($40.7 million) compared to $19.2 million in October 2009. January-October 2010 year-to-date E-book sales are up 171.3 percent reaching $345.3 million compared to 127.3 million from January-October 2009.
